Are Left Handers in their Right Mind?

I admit it – I am one of the 10% of the world that is left handed. Which may be why I have heard and know that joke.  I always knew that I was different. Did you know that pie cutters are made for right handed people? Left handers have been forced to adapt in a right-handed world.  

I remember in my elementary school we had these pre-formed desks perfect for classrooms of right

handed students. These desks were terrible!  As a lefty, I had to sit sideways and twist around to find the solid surface. Mrs. Johnson, my 3rd grade teacher, laughed at me in front of the class and said, “You have the worst handwriting of any student I have ever had.”

Myth: Sticks and Stones Don't Break My Bones and Words will Never Hurt Me?

Our self talk is generated by our belief of self, but often stem from the messages of our life coming together in some narrative that is more based in misperception versus a true reflection of how we really are or observed by others. The English language childhood rhyme “Sticks and Stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me.” This rhyme tries to persuade the victim of name calling to ignore and remain calm and good natured despite the words.

This is really not true. Words DO hurt us!

Do I love myself, forgive myself, cherish myself - usually not

In my head, it is a swirling of a thousand thoughts all struggling to be heard. Tasks, to-dos I forgot to write down, thoughts about strategy and being busy keeping everyone and my work and my home happy and afloat. Yet, they struggle to find space due to the many messages that are also competing to tell me how much I lack and how small I am. Sometimes are harder than others.
